'Saboteurs' target model air show
Organisers of a model air show say they have thwarted attempts to sabotage the event.

Signs giving directions to the Yorkshire Giant and Jet Model Spectacular have been turned round to send people the wrong way, an order for safety cones cancelled, and local radio stations were told the show had been moved to another date.

The two-day event at Rufforth airfield, near York, which starts on Saturday, features some of the biggest remote controlled aircraft in Europe.

North Yorkshire Police are investigating the complaint by organisers.

Air show organiser David Tappin said: "We're appalled that people would try to wreck a show that gives pleasure to thousands.

"But that's what they've tried to do.

"We have reported all this to the police and we want to reassure all those who intended to come that the show is going ahead."

A spokesman for North Yorkshire police confirmed that details of the alleged sabotage attempts had been passed on to them.
