The solution to the disgusting rate of Council and Business taxes is simple ... cut the size of government. Get rid of Council Tax, put 3p on income tax. Let Councils keep the business rate (and keep it unified). That way it will be in the interest of Councils to LOOK AFTER residents, jobs and business as opposed to seeing us as sheep to be fleeced with impunity.

I'm a single person, I find it increasingly hard to meet all my bills and look after my future, pensions, mortgage etc. I believe it is unjust to place such double figure increases on us all. Even with the 25% discount I watch my income rapidly disappear. This will be why I cannot see myself voting Labour - something I have always done.

Council Tax Charge is unjust and undemocratic for people who are compelled by law, like me, to pay it. Unjust because it's not based on the ability to pay according to your income. Council Tax is not paid by all in the community and you have to pay income tax on money earned to pay the council Tax - so I need to earn approx £2,125, I pay £467.50 income tax at 22% on this, then pay my £1,657.50 council tax.

Congratulations to Jeremy Vine for his report on Council Tax today, and bravo to the pensioners who are standing up to this crippling tax. Particularly moving was the interview with the pensioner who said he'd be better off in prison than he is at the moment. What a shocking way to treat our pensioners!

I too have been involved with demonstrating against increases in the council tax. We do appreciate all the coverage that the BBC is devoting to this issue, hopefully there will be some light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you
