Police count cost of football trouble
Police face hooligans
There is now an officer specifically to oversee football crowds
Nottinghamshire police spent £2.4m policing local football fans last year, it has been revealed.

Out of the money spent on policing the county's football matches, only around £100,000 comes from the clubs themselves - with taxpayers money footing the rest of the bill.

The Association of Chief Police Officers says talks are ongoing with the government and the football authorities to change the situation.

Meanwhile Nottinghamshire Police have appointed an officer - funded by the Home Office - to deal with football trouble.

Inspector Greg Drodzowski said of his new role: "The main emphasis is to create a much safer and enjoyable environment for the young fans and the generally well behaved supporters throughout the country.

"But it is also to send a clear message to those intent on violence and disorder that they are not welcome in Nottingham."

So far 33 people have been banned from matches by Nottinghamshire's football clubs, 40 have been banned by the courts and some of those have been banned by both.
