A man was taken to hospital after half of his ear was bitten off in an assault in a Manchester nightclub.

Police were called to Piccadilly Twenty One, in Piccadilly, at about 0205 BST on Saturday following reports of a fight in the club's toilets.

The injured man, a 24-year-old from Craigend in Glasgow, is believed to have come to Manchester for the weekend with a friend.

He was taken to the Manchester Royal Infirmary where he was treated for his injuries.

'Horrific attack'

The part of his ear that was bitten off has not yet been found.

His attacker is white, aged 19 or 20, slim, about 5ft 10ins tall, with short brown hair which was brushed forward.

He wore a blue long-sleeved jumper with a light coloured shirt underneath.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said: "This was an horrifically violent attack on a visitor to our city.

"From what the victim has said there were a number of people who witnessed this attack which took place in the men's toilets of the club."
