Toddler dies in wall tragedy
police tape
Forensic officers have been examining the wall
A toddler has died after a garden wall collapsed during a family barbecue in south Wales.

Connor Keith Morgan, aged 18 months, died after the wall collapsed int the garden of a council house in Cefn Fforest Avenue, Cefn Fforest, Blackwood.

Gwent Police and Health and Safety Executive investigators were at the house on Friday trying to piece together how the tragedy happened.

They have begun carrying out preliminary inquiries to discover who built the wall.

The house itself is owned by Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Neighbours said house was the home of the boy's grandparents.

A police spokeswoman said officers were called to the scene at 1930 BST on Thursday.

"The toddler was taken to Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr, but he had fatal injuries," she said.

"We don't know yet whether he was dead at the scene.

The Gwent coroner David Bowen has been informed and the Health and Safety Executive has been contacted.

A neighbour, who did not wished to be named, said: "It is tragic and so sad. It sounds as if it was a freak accident.

"I would often hear the boy playing with his grandparents in the garden and they used to make such a fuss of him as all the family would."

The back garden of the house and the house next door were sealed off with police tape, and forensic officers worked through the night at the scene.
