Activities to help troubled youngsters

Sports like rock climbing, abseiling and kayaking are on offer
Young people with troubled backgrounds are being invited to take part in a new activity course in Plymouth.

The Getaway Project is designed to develop teamwork skills, raise self-confidence and broaden young people's horizons.

The main aim of the project is to help 16-year-olds make a successful transition into further education, training or work.

It involves a number of activities like rock climbing on Dartmoor, abseiling and kayaking.

Difficult backgrounds

Young people with difficult backgrounds are particularly welcome to take part.

That includes those at risk of offending, being excluded from school, and those who are refugees, asylum seekers or from travelling communities.

But the Getaway Project is open to young people from all backgrounds.

The scheme is funded by the National Lottery, so the teenagers do not have to pay anything.
