Police officer stabbed
Police search the area
Householders have been asked to check gardens for a weapon
A policeman is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in Bristol.

The officer was in Delvin Road in the Southmead area of the city when he was stabbed in the stomach at about 1430 BST on Friday.

He has been taken to Frenchay Hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

He was able to give a detailed description of the offender to his colleagues who are searching for the man.

The attack took place in an alleyway and police have asked householders in the area to look in their gardens for a discarded weapon.

The officer was alone on duty when he approached a young man who he thought was acting suspiciously.

After he was stabbed, he managed to call for help on his radio.

The youth is described as more than 6 ft tall, wearing a hooded top possibly with a baseball cap. He was wearing dark trousers.
