Raiders' £60,000 gem haul
Armed raiders escaped with a haul of precious gems worth over £60,000 when they targeted a North Yorkshire home, police have revealed.

Four masked men armed with a knife and a shotgun burst into the Skipton property at 2300 BST on Thursday, 31 July, tying up the family while they stole the jewellery and cash.

While a £50,000 reward has been offered by the family for the arrest and conviction of the gang, North Yorkshire Police have revealed the size of the haul.

The jewellery included an 18 carat gold necklace with 107 brilliant cut diamonds, worth £16,000.

A pair of platinum two-stone brilliant cut diamond earrings with a claw setting worth £22,000; a platinum bracelet with brilliant cut diamonds worth almost £10,000; and a pair of platinum stud earrings with a single modern round brilliant cut diamond in a claw setting worth £14,000.

Police investigating the attack found a shotgun in the grounds of the property which is now being examined by forensic experts.
