Police target troublemakers

Police say there has been a 21% drop in the amount of street violence this year
Troublemakers in St Helier will be targeted by police this weekend, as part of Jersey police's third Operation Focus campaign.

Officers claim there has been a 21% drop in the amount of street violence this year so far, thanks to extra policemen on the beat.

The campaigns started after Jersey people told the police they were concerned about the amount of violence and disruption in town.

Extra officers patrol the trouble hotspots and try to prevent violence from occurring in the first place.

'Not complacent'

Chief Superintendent Lennie Harper says the force is now at full strength and can send regular patrols into the most difficult areas of town at the weekends.

But he said the force is not going to become complacent, and will keep working hard to try and reduce crime figures.
