Man killed in road crash
The scene of the accident on the A38
Two dogs were travelling in the back of the camper van
A man died and a woman was seriously injured in a road accident in Devon.

The crash happened on the A38 near Plymouth at 1130 BST on Friday.

It involved a lorry and a camper van on the eastbound carriageway at Deep Lane.

Police had to close the A38 from Marsh Mills roundabout as far as Deep Lane for several hours, causing serious congestion, but the road is now fully re-open.

Police say the camper van was in collision with a lorry in a lay-by just before the Deep Lane turn off to Plympton.

Air ambulance

The Devon Air Ambulance landed on the carriageway and flew the man and woman to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman suffered serious chest injuries.

The driver of the lorry escaped with only minor injuries and shock.

Two dogs travelling in the back of the camper van were rounded up by dog wardens. A third dog died in the crash.

Accident investigators spent most of the day at the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident to come forward.
