BA to stop flights
Jersey Airport
Deputy Lyndon Farnham says more public investment in the airport is a priority
British Airways has announced it is to stop flying between Jersey and Southampton.

The route will end on 25 October.

The company is blaming low profitability and says no other route will be affected at the moment.

Deputy Lyndon Farnham, the politician responsible for tourism, says more public investment in the airport is a priority if Jersey's to avoid losing more air links.

That particular route has actually been losing money

He also said cutting costs for airlines is a priority.

"We do continually review our route network," said Mike Coombes, Head of Commercial Development at BA CitiExpress.

"And every route needs to generate a reasonable level of return to justify our continued investment.

"That particular route has actually been losing money therefore we have had to make the difficult decision to withdraw the service."
