Arabic newspapers comment on the difficulties of ensuring security in Iraq in the wake of the bombing of the Jordanian Embassy in Baghdad.
The papers suggest stability can be achieved only after US forces have handed over to a democratically elected Iraqi government.
The terrorist attack on our embassy in Baghdad will never shake our strong existence. Jordan is used to defending its national position whatever the cost.
Al-Dustur - Jordan
The act of blowing up the Jordanian embassy in central Baghdad, which is full of US forces, confirms the weakness of those forces in security matters... It is up to Washington to review its coalition policy in Iraq.
Al-Watan - Saudi Arabia
The US forces occupied Iraq in a short time. They surprised the Iraqi people, ended the Baathist regime and finished its leadership by either detaining, killing or banishing them. But they will never be able to restore security and put a stop to the looting and killings.
Al-Watan - Saudi Arabia
If the USA really wants peace and stability in Iraq, it has no option but to hand over responsibility to a government elected by the Iraqi people in democratic elections, supervised by the UN and the Arab League. This is the only way the USA can safely withdraw from the Iraqi quagmire, because the worst is yet to come for the occupying forces.
Al-Akhbar - Egypt
The call by the Arab follow-up committee for the occupation forces in Iraq to withdraw in the shortest time possible, and for an elected Iraqi government to be set up without differentiating between the Iraqi factions, is considered a great support for the Iraqi resistance, which is bravely confronting the occupation forces.
Al-Jumhuriyah - Egypt
The extremist right wing of the White House administration, which keeps on coming up with jokes, has now asked Arab countries to send their troops to occupied Iraq.
Al-Akhbar - Egypt
Arab countries have done a good thing by deciding to reject the US request to officially recognize the interim governing council of Iraq, which was appointed by the Bush administration.
Al-Watan - Qatar
The USA has resorted to exerting pressure on Arab governments over the Iraqi issue after its efforts at the UN failed. It seems that the US administration would like the Arabs' total recognition of the existing US occupation, which would in turn pave the way for recognition by the international community.
Al-Watan - Qatar
Well done Iran for sending a delegate from its government to Baghdad to hold talks with members of the Iraqi governing council. Well done as well to the delegate for confirming that Tehran is ready to co-operate with the governing council and help Iraqis reconstruct their country.
