'Protester' on city roof top
police tape image
Police negotiators have been talking to a man who is staging a solitary roof-top protest in Belfast city centre.

The man is on the roof of a three-storey building in North Street and is believed to have been there since 0130 BST on Friday.

It is understood that he is claiming to support four prisoners at Maghaberry Prison who are currently staging their own roof protest to highlight calls for prisoner segregation.

A large part of the city centre has been cordoned off and workers have been prevented from getting to work.

Fire crews are in place with a high-riser.
