Missing mother found safe
The National Gallery in Edinburgh
Mrs Watson was visiting the National Gallery when she disappeared
An elderly South African woman who vanished in Edinburgh has been found safe and well.

Alison Western, 72, was visiting The National Gallery with her son when she disappeared on Monday morning.

On Tuesday her son William. 34, who has been working as a plumber in Buckinghamshire since 1999, issued an appeal to the public to help find her.

Lothian and Borders Police had been becoming increasingly concerned for her welfare as Mrs Western was said to be in poor health and did not know the city.

It was confirmed on Tuesday evening that Mrs Western had turned up safe at a relative's house in London.

A police statement said that Mrs Western had become separated from her son, and, being unable to contact him, decided to stay the night in Edinburgh.

She then made her way to London by train.
