Mo Brennan is credited with reviving the school's fortunes

A Black Country school that was among the worst in the UK has been singled out as an example of excellence.
Drug dealers used to loiter at the gates of Hillcrest School and Community College in Netherton, which was placed under "special measures" by the inspectorate, Ofsted.
But the school has been turned around since the appointment of head teacher Mo Brennan in 2000.
The percentage of pupils gaining five or more good GCSE grades has almost trebled at the school, which is no longer under special supervision.

Don't accept anything for these children that you wouldn't accept for your own

Mrs Brennan said considerable effort has been needed to turn around the school's performance.
"It was what I call a sad school - there was little learning taking place.
"Good teachers make a difference and we explained to the children exactly what we are doing."
She added: "Don't accept anything for these children that you wouldn't accept for your own."
Teacher Jacqui Newsom said Mrs Brennan has been an inspiration.
"She's got a very clear vision of what she expects in education.
"You can't help but be challenged by her enthusiasm."
No registers
Pupil Jafar Tiyar said that the school has changed beyond recognition since Mrs Brennan's appointment.
"I don't think I did any homework. The homework that was set, the teachers never asked for it anyway.
"You would skip half the lessons because there would be no registers.
"They'd just sit you down, give you some work to do, then you'd go to the next one, whereas now you actually look forward to the lessons.
"You've got something that you want to go to, something that you enjoy doing."
