Funeral for accident victim
Hayley Bloomfield
Hayley Bloomfield was killed as she crossed the street
Family and friends of a nine-year-old girl who was killed as she crossed the street for an ice-cream have attended her funeral in Grimsby.

Hayley Bloomfield died following the collision with a car on Alexandra Road on 15 September.

Her death has prompted a campaign for improved road safety at the site.

On Tuesday, Hayley's friends and family arrived at St Hugh's church in Haycroft Street to remember the schoolgirl that "loved everyone".

Reverend Judith McMann, who led the service, told BBC Look North: "This has rocked the community.

'Lovely lass'

"Every parent is thanking god it wasn't their child and our sympathies are really with George and Katrina [her parents]."

Hayley's mother, Katrina, said she and her husband had been overwhelmed by messages of support.

Mrs Bloomfield said: "She was a lovely little lass - she loved everybody and everything."

Hayley's death has given impetus to a campaign to improve safety measures on Alexandra Road.

Busy road

More than 2,000 people have signed a petition calling for action from the council.

It is due to be handed in during a march on Grimsby Town Hall on Wednesday.

North East Lincolnshire Councillor Keith Watkin said: "This is a very busy road with traffic coming off the A180.

"It's been a concern and we've obviously looked at it and had some signs put up. We are going to look at re-adjusting this sign."
