Four teenagers are being questioned after a hit-and-run incident in which a Birmingham police officer was deliberately knocked down.

Pc John Keepax, 28, is in a stable condition in hospital with serious leg and arm injuries.

He was run over by a black Honda Civic as he was walking with another uniformed officer along Poplar Avenue in Bearwood, on the edge of Birmingham, shortly before 1600 BST on Thursday.

A 17-year-old local youth was arrested on Friday night in connection with the incident and two girls and a boy, all aged 16, were detained on Saturday morning.

The vehicle was later abandoned on Drayton Road, Bearwood, and is being examined by forensic experts.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
