Pair jailed for killing
Two men have been jailed for manslaughter after killing a man in an unprovoked attack in the street.

David Cheetham, 44, of Hazlemere Drive in Gillingham, was sentenced to four years in jail after he admitted the manslaughter of Martin Swain, also from Gillingham.

Robert Baker, of Darnley Road in Strood, was convicted of manslaughter by a jury in June after denying the charge.

The 24-year-old was given six years in jail for repeatedly kicking Mr Swain while he lay on the ground, and a further four years for a series of other offences including robbery.

Maidstone Crown Court had heard 43-year-old Mr Swain was chased down the road by Baker and Cheetham while walking home from a party on 17 July last year.

They punched him to the floor and repeatedly kicked him, the court heard.

Mr Swain later died from the blow to his head when he hit the ground, which caused an eight-inch crack in his skull.
