WKRP star Jump dies
US sitcom star Gordon Jump has died at the age of 71 after suffering a long illness, it has been announced.

Jump was best known for playing hapless radio station manager Arthur Carlson in comedy show WKRP In Cincinnati, which ran from 1979-82.

Bowie 'avoids' star lifestyle

Rock star David Bowie says he avoids the trappings of a celebrity lifestyle.

Instead, the New York-based star enjoys strolling around the city alone.

"I don't think I would be able to cope with a celebrity lifestyle at all," he wrote in New York magazine.

"The idea of an entourage is anathema to me. The one thing you can depend on with an entourage is that everyone will look at you. I think that's the idea."

Baldwin set for Swimmer remake

Alec Baldwin is set to star in a remake of 1968 film The Swimmer, which starred the late Burt Lancaster.

Filming on the new version is due to start next year, and will remain "relatively faithful to the original", according to its producers.

But they have hinted that the setting may shift to Baldwin's native Long Island from the original Connecticut.

Lancaster starred as a middle-aged advertising executive who swims through his neighbourhood's swimming pools.

Lennon fan wants Imagine plates

A John Lennon fan in Florida is campaigning for the right to use the word "Imagine" on car number plates.

Michael Towner, aged 44, wants the special plates introduced in order to raise money for charity.

Under the proposal, each motorist who buys the Imagine "tag" would contribute $25 (£15) to the Florida Association Of Food Banks.

There are already 800 special tags in Florida - and a long waiting list for legislative approval.

Film-makers want to block series

The makers of a US independent film are taking legal action against a TV series which they claim has stolen the film's name, themes and setting.

MJM Productions, the company behind the film Brotherhood, are seeking damages against the series The Brotherhood Of Poland, New Hampshire.

They also want a judge to stop CBS and 20th Century Fox from airing the show's premiere on Wednesday in New Hampshire.

A decision is expected from the judge on Tuesday.
