The Italian Job
The Italian Job is a remake of the 1969 classic
The Italian Job has topped the UK and Ireland box office chart, knocking Calendar Girls from the top spot.

The Hollywood remake of the 1969 hit took £2.3m over the weekend, surpassing Calendar Girls which took £1.8m.

Horror thriller Underworld, starring Kate Beckinsale, made its debut at number three, taking £1.4m.

Disney fantasy Pirates of the Caribbean came in fourth, adding to its box office haul of £24.6m over the past seven weeks.

The UK success of the movie, starring Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, is mirrored around the world, with its $270.5m (£163.2m) total ensuring it remains the biggest film of the moment.

Other top UK 10 movies include American Pie 3: The Wedding at number five and Jeepers Creepers 2 at six.

The only other new release was the Merchant Ivory international comedy Le Divorce, starring Kate Hudson and Naomi Watts.

It entered the chart at number 13, taking just £93,061 from 75 screens around the UK and Ireland.

The Oscar-winning Japanese animation film Spirited Away is performing strongly, taking £368,300 in the two weeks since its release, despite being shown on only 51 screens.
