It's Wales@Westminster Newslog, BBC Wales' Parliamentary correspondent David Cornock's diary on political life. It's a two-way process though, so add your comments too.

Pity the Lib Dems.

It's one of the laws of political life that their conference is inevitably overshadowed by events elsewhere.

Eleven years ago, Britain fell out of the Exchange Rate Mechanism as the Lib Dems debated details of policies they could never implement.

More recently, Labour have found ways of seizing the news agenda as the Lib Dems gather by the seaside.

This year, a Lib Dem by-election win was not enough to divert most political hacks from the Hutton inquiry.

Alastair Campbell's diary or a Lib Dem debate on the monarchy? No contest really.
