A trust has been set up in honour of a North Somerset girl who suffered from the life-threatening heart defect, cardiomyopathy.

Louisa Harrington, from Clevedon, was nine when she died in July after an operation during which she developed a fatal lung infection.

She had been waiting more than a year for a heart transplant.

On Monday, a cheque for £11,000 was donated to the Cardiomyopathy Association by the Louisa Harrington Trust.

Jude Harrington, Louisa's mother, told the BBC: "Losing a child is one of the worst things that can happen to anyone.

"You never get over it, but you have to learn to live with it. Raising awareness and setting up the trust keeps her name alive and it helps."

Comedian Eddie Large is a patron of the trust, which will pass on the money it raises to the charities that helped Louisa before her death.
