Teen held over beach rape

The attack took place on the beach near to the esplanade

A teenager has been charged, following the rape of a 14-year-old girl by the esplanade of a busy seaside resort.

The attack on the beach at Weymouth in Dorset left the girl injured and deeply traumatised.

A 19-year-old man, arrested on Wednesday, was charged with rape on Friday.

He is expected to appear before Blandford Magsitrates today.

Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses to the attack, which took place behind Marks and Spencer at about 0100 BST on Saturday.
