A student murdered his flatmate by stabbing him 80 times in a "frenzied attack", a court has been told
Saif Mahmood, 21, died almost immediately from one of the first wounds which penetrated his heart.
His body was found in the kitchen of the flat he shared with Adam Davies, 20, near the grounds of Brunel University, west London.
Michael Worsley QC, prosecuting, said both men had been drinking and had been drunk when they left a party in a halls of residence, a few hours before the attack.
He told the jury at the Old Bailey that neighbours were woken in the early hours of the morning by noise coming from the flat above.
Masked men
Mr Davies allegedly told one of the neighbours he had stabbed and killed his friend.
But later, he told police he was held at knifepoint while his friend was killed after two masked men came to the flat.
Mr Worsley said it was a "frenzied attack" which had been committed in a "drunken rage".
Mr Mahmood, who had been a student at the university until shortly before his death, had been stabbed all over his body with two knives, the jury was told.
Mr Davies, of Uxbridge, west London, denies murdering his flatmate in January this year.
Mr Worsley said: "They were friends. From time to time they used to argue and get into heated arguments."
The trial continues.
