A 38-year-old man remains in custody after his arrest on suspicion of murdering a woman who was stabbed to death while she tended to her horse in Buckinghamshire.

Rana Faruqui, 35, was killed in a field near stables at Jennings Farm, Burnham, near Slough, at about 2100 BST on Saturday.

Thames Valley Police found the business analyst's body just 15 minutes after a call was made to the emergency services.

A man was detained by police in Watlington, Oxfordshire, shortly before 1100 BST on Thursday, the force said.

Detective Superintendent Steve Morrison at Maidenhead police station said: "A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of Rana Faruqui.

Awaiting interview

"The man, who has not been named, is currently in police custody awaiting interview by detectives from Thames Valley Police's major crime unit.

"He was arrested in Watlington, Oxfordshire, shortly before 11am today by local officers."

Police sources said detectives were not looking for anyone else in connection with the killing.

In a statement her family said she was a beautiful, much-loved daughter, sister and auntie and a loyal, generous and loving friend.

"Rana had an insatiable appetite for life, expressed through her love for horses, animals and her devotion and commitment to her friends and family," they said.

Lively and vivacious

Ms Faruqui worked for the High Wycombe-based Hyundai Car (UK) Limited for more than four years.

In a statement from the company, she was described as having a "bright and lively nature" which made her "one of the most popular members of staff".

David Walker, managing director, said: "We are all devastated at the news of Rana's death. She was such a vivacious individual, the sort of individual who people love to be around."

"I know Rana will be sadly missed, and remembered with great affection, by everyone in the business," he added.
