Cars stopped for murder clues
Justin Maynard
Justin was due to start a college course in September
Motorists have been stopped in Moss Side by detectives investigating the murder of a 19-year-old man who was shot in the back.

Justin Maynard died from a single wound after being shot in Tugford Close at about 1845 BST on 26 August.

Between 1730 and 2000 BST on Tuesday, police stopped and questioned drivers on Alexandra Road in Moss Side to find more information about the murder.

Detective Superintendent Vincent Petrykowski, from Greater Manchester Police, said they are still looking for the breakthrough that will lead them to Justin's killer.

Mr Petrykowski said: "There is a strong possibility that there may be witnesses to Justin's murder who have not yet come forward.

"The people who were in the area on the night of his death may have information that could help us solve his murder and I would ask them to please come forward and speak to us.

"This inquiry is not going to go away and I can reassure them that all information will be treated in the strictest of confidence."

'I lost my whole world'

Patrols have been stepped up and stop-and-search tactics reintroduced in the area since the shooting.

And Mr Maynard's mother made an emotional appeal for information in the days after her son's death.

Miranda Maynard said: "I lost everything on the night Justin was killed, he meant the world to me and I can't imagine my life without him.

"If anyone knows anything about his death I would ask them to please, please come forward and tell the police what they know.

"I lost my whole world the night that he was killed and it's not fair that his killers should live a normal life when mine and the rest of my family's have been turned upside down."

She added Justin had wanted to "make something of himself" and had been planning to enrol on a college course.

Despite Ms Maynard's appeal and the increased police activity, it is still a mystery who was responsible.

It is hoped Tuesday's roadside appeal will yield fresh information.

Shooting appeal

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police have arrested three men on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with a shooting in Moss Side on Monday.

Police were called to Hancock Close just before midday on Monday following reports that shots had been fired.

They found a Staffordshire bull terrier dog at the premises had been shot dead.

On Tuesday, police said they had arrested three men in connection with the incident.
