The funeral of murder victim Amanda Champion has taken place in Kent.

Miss Champion was found dead in Ashford on 26 July.

The 21-year-old had been reported missing 11 days earlier and had not been at work for more than three weeks.

Kent Police took the opportunity to issue a fresh appeal for information over her death.

'Lonely young woman'

Detectives have still not revealed how Miss Champion died "for operational reasons".

Her funeral took place in St Mary the Virgin Church in nearby Willesborough on Tuesday morning.

Miss Champion's decomposed body was found by someone walking on wasteland near her home in Ashford's Newtown area late on 26 July, a Saturday night.

Relatives described her in the days after her death as a lonely young woman, but always smiling.

They said she had been devoted to her father who died two years ago and had been left to fend for herself since his death.

Detective Chief Inspector Dean Barnes said on Tuesday he believed someone close to the killer would have suspicions.

He said: "A close friend or loved one may well know, or suspect someone they love.

'Anxious and scared'

"Their suspicions could be as a consequence of a change in the person's mood or the fact that he may be withdrawn and keeping themselves to themselves, more so than usual.

"They will probably think of this person as a good man and not the kind who could harm another in this way.

"He may be all of these things, he may not have meant to harm Amanda and but he will be anxious and scared and may not know what to do for the best.

"He needs to contact the incident room so we can decide options and a way forward.

"The sooner this can be done the sooner Amanda's family can attempt to find peace."
