Three people are trapped in a haunted house
|
Radio 4 launched its first interactive radio drama on Tuesday, a horror thriller called The Dark House.
Listeners can vote by text or phone to change the perspective from which the drama unfolds.
Votes are collated every three minutes - the character with the most votes will resume the storytelling from their point of view until the next change.
Did you listen to the show and cast your vote? Do you think it worked? Were you hooked?

Don't listen to much radio drama but gave this a whirl...in the dark...with headphones. CREEPY!

It was overlong and did not feel as though it was that interactive. The switching between characters was sometimes confusing, sometimes just drawing out the story. It would be more interesting to let a story develop over weeks with listeners' ideas being incorporated into the tale.

I turned it off after 3 minutes because the "Go for it" style was too irritating. Why was it on so late. Surely interactive radio would be better earlier in the evening, rather than when people are trying to fall asleep.

We listened and interacted last night by text messaging, and were gripped by the narrative! An excellent star to interactive Radio drama. I look forward to more!

This was excellent, really scary sound effects and lots to play on the imagination afterwards. The texting idea works well with ghost stories because by getting you involved with the storyline you are more drawn in to what is unfolding. A great ending too...

Listened to repeat at 11:00 - very creepy. However at that time in the evening most people are in bed (I was)and/or would be relaxing after a long day at work - too much work to listen then text. OK if already at PC, but who stays on that late (particularly after a day's work)? I think that the best time would be around Friday 9pm/Saturday 8pm slot

Really enjoyed the Dark House, the shifting perspective of the play stopped me from getting too settled, it really kept you on edge throughout. I voted twice during the play, and loved the fact that it was the audience who were in control of who we listened to

It was good enough as an introduction to this kind of format - but I agree with comments that it would have been better earlier in the evening and also would have been more substantial as an experience if it had been an hour long.
One slight criticism of this, and of other recent productions such as Caterbury Tales, may be that there is too much reliance on the overall 'concept' being interesting at the expense of working up content that would adequately fufil its promise. The 'magic' of storytelling seems to be a bit absent.
