Council pay rise decision deferred
Rotherham Council
Performance-related pay rises have been suggested
A decision on how much to pay senior officers at Rotherham Council has been deferred.

An independent panel report has recommended the chief executive gets a £14,000 pay rise to take his salary to £120,000 a year.

It said salaries for executive directors should range from £80,000 to £90,000, based on four performance-related increments of £2,500.

But councillors, who were due to vote on the issue on Wednesday, have referred the matter to their Performance and Scrutiny Overview Committee.

Terry Sharman, deputy leader of the metropolitan borough council, said: "We decided we wanted as much information as possible before we reach a final decision.

"We are looking forward to hearing from the Performance and Scrutiny Overview Committee once they have gathered their evidence.

"We will then consider this issue again."

The council has said the proposed pay rises are still lowers than comparable local authorities.
