Trapped drivers get water relief
Tailback
Three people suffered minor injuries in the crash
Police officers have been handing out bottles of water to drivers trapped in a massive tailback following a major crash.

Two lorries collided on the A34 near Newbury shortly after midday, spilling more than 200 gallons of diesel over both carriageways.

Three people received minor injuries in the crash, while both lanes of the northbound carriageway are closed, along with one lane of the southbound route.

Thames Valley Police said they were concerned about people stuck in more than three miles of tailbacks either way, during the hottest day of the year so far.

Officers have been tasked with attending a number of service stations and supermarkets to get water for those who are stuck
Police spokeswoman
A Thames Valley Police spokeswoman said: "Senior officers are overseeing the response to the accident and are currently working to clear the scene and to get the traffic moving as soon as possible.

"Concerns at the moment are for the welfare of the people stuck in the tailbacks on the hottest day of the year so far.

"Officers have been tasked with attending a number of service stations and supermarkets to get water for those who are stuck."

Police said the closures were expected to remain for the rest of the day and they warned people to avoid the area.
