A car explosion on Saturday night may be related to a gangland feud, say police in Liverpool.

On Monday detectives released an e-fit of a man who bought the car shortly before it blew up.

The blue Peugeot, which was parked on Mount Pleasant near the 051 nightclub, exploded at about 2300 BST on Saturday.

Nearby windows were broken, but no-one was injured in the blast.

Police said they were able to rule out some motives for the explosion.

Chief Inspector Helen Cooney, of Merseyside Police, said: "There is no evidence to suggest it is any type of terrorism attack or an attack on the city centre."

Officers are examining CCTV footage of the area, and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Forensic experts are carrying out DNA, fingerprint and explosives tests on the car.

The man bought the car, registration K309 OKA, in the Liverpool 6 area in the days before the explosion.
