Compost conference heats up
Farmers are being urged to waste not, want not, and start composting on their land, by a national conference which is coming to Shropshire.

More than 200 people are expected at the second On-Farm Composting Conference, which is being held at Harper Adams University College, near Newport, on 12 September.

Called 'Growing With Confidence', it aims to showcase the most recent developments within the composting industry and allow farmers to meet with those already composting.

Conference organisers say they want to promote the many benefits of composting green waste on farms.

They say the UK composting industry is at a crucial stage of development especially with changing licensing legislation.

Advice will also be on offer on obtaining a waste management licence, the use of compost in agriculture and to combat disease.

Simon Jones, manager of the On-Farm Composting Network, who are organising the conference, says he hoped to build on the success of the 2001 event.
