A woman has been arrested in connection with an attack on a man who was stabbed in the heart in an argument over a car park space.

The 30-year-old man underwent life-saving surgery after the incident outside shops in Ormesby Road, Middlesbrough on Sunday.

The victim, who has not been named, is said to be in a stable condition.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: "The man was stabbed in the heart after a dispute broke out between the owners of two cars.

"The vehicles were outside Lealholme shops in Ormesby Road, Middlesbrough, at 1930 BST on Sunday.

"The injured man was a passenger in one of the cars.

"He was taken to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, where emergency surgery was carried out."

The spokesman said a knife was thought to have been used, but that no weapon had yet been found.
