A woman has been arrested in connection with an attack on a man who was stabbed in the heart in an argument over a car park space.
The 30-year-old man underwent life-saving surgery after the incident outside shops in Ormesby Road, Middlesbrough on Sunday.
The victim, who has not been named, is said to be in a stable condition.
A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: "The man was stabbed in the heart after a dispute broke out between the owners of two cars.
"The vehicles were outside Lealholme shops in Ormesby Road, Middlesbrough, at 1930 BST on Sunday.
"The injured man was a passenger in one of the cars.
"He was taken to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, where emergency surgery was carried out."
The spokesman said a knife was thought to have been used, but that no weapon had yet been found.
Detectives are still looking for a man who was said to be in the other vehicle.
