Inquiry into internet allegations
Twenty-five workers at a north London council have been suspended over allegations involving the distribution of obscene material from the internet.

The staff members were suspended by Haringey Council seven days ago and a police investigation is under way.

A statement from the council said: "Twenty five staff were suspended at the end of July pending internal investigations for misuse of the internet.

"The council takes a tough line on these matters and demands high standards of its employees.

"The investigation has highlighted one computer generated picture of a child on a small number of PCs.

"This matter has been referred to the police who are investigating."

Police have said they are investigating a claim that alleged obscene material was distributed internally.

No arrests have been made.
