Children 'tagged' for safety

Youngsters visiting Hemsby beach can be tagged with a wristband
A beach safety scheme should help children who are lost to become quickly reunited with their parents.

Coastguards in Norfolk are urging parents to put hand tags on their children while on the beach and in the water.

Guards on Hemsby beach will be distributing 500 wristbands to visitors with children.

They hope the tags will cut down on the number of occasions they are called to search for lost children.

Search parties and the lifeboat were called out twice on Tuesday to find lost children who had not been tagged.

And since last weekend, six children have been reported missing on the beach before being reunited with family.

Parents given tags are told to write a contact number inside the wristband but not the child's name.
