Asia: Indonesia's troubles
Foreign Minister, Hassan Wirayuda
What other challenges does Indonesia face?

In a HARDtalk interview on 22 September, 2003, Tim Sebastian talks to Hassan Wirayuda, Indonesia's Foreign Minister.

The rise of radical Islam is a massive challenge to the world's most populous Muslim country.

Indonesia came under intense international pressure following September 11 to boost its effort to fight terrorism.

Then the Bali bomb brought that fight much closer to home for Indonesians.

But as well as the war on terror, Indonesia faces persistent recession, a new military campaign in the would-be breakaway province of Aceh, other separatist pressures across its vast archipelago, and international criticism for corruption and money-laundering.

Tim Sebastian spoke to Indonesia's Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda about the many problems facing his vast country.

HARDtalk can be seen on BBC World at 03:30 GMT, 08:30 GMT, 11:30 GMT, 15:30 GMT, 18:30 GMT and 22:30 GMT

It can also be seen on BBC News 24 at 03:30 and 23:30
