Centre to stem staff shortage
A shortage of hospital porters, cooks and administrators has led to a training centre being set up on a hospital site.

Around £500,000 has been spent on the healthcare learning centre in north Staffordshire.

The centre, which opens this week, is based at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire and courses will be taught by staff from Stoke-on-Trent College.

The aim will be to recruit local people who want to work in hospitals and medical centres.

Some of the funding will come from the regional development agency, Advantage West Midlands.

Some of the training will be directed at existing NHS staff.
