The States debate will be held in private due to legal risks
The most important States debate in Jersey for years takes place behind closed doors on Tuesday.

Politicians will decide whether to approve a land deal involving £10m worth of public land.

States members have to decide whether to transfer public land worth £10m to a private company, Les Pas Holdings.

If they do, a long-running legal dispute over ownership of much of St Helier's foreshore will come to an immediate end.

If they decide against the transfer, the court case involving the States, the Crown and Les Pas Holdings Limited will start again.

Islanders will only know about what is going on once a decision is reached.

It has been decided to hold the debate in private because of the legal risks and the fear that too many details about the case might be revealed by States members.
