Appeal after bottle attack
Police are appealing for witnesses
Police have appealed for eyewitnesses to an attack in which a man's face was slashed with a broken bottle in west Belfast.

He suffered an injury to an eye after being set upon by two men at the junction of the Springfield Road and Whiterock Road at about 0200 BST on Wednesday.

He was struck on the head and the face during the attack outside a chip shop.

It was feared at first he would lose the sight of his left eye but he has now been discharged from hospital.

Acting Superintendent Peter Farrar said it was a nasty attack.

"We are keeping a very open mind in this investigation but we would appeal for anyone who has information in relation to this attack to please come forward to police at New Barnsely Station," he said.

"Anyone who was around Kelly's Corner at 0200 BST to 0300 BST to come forward and give us any information they have."
