Islanders set for car-free day
Speeding car
The Traffic Committee hopes the week will reduce accident levels
Islanders are being encouraged to go to St Peter Port without their cars on Monday.

Buses will be free for the day which also marks the launch of road safety week in Guernsey.

People across Europe will be "en ville sans ma voiture" on Monday as drivers use alternative means of transport.

Traffic Committee president Deputy Pat Mellor says she hopes people will support the event in Guernsey and either get on the bus for free or use a bike or walk.

Biggest initiative

Unlike many towns and cities, the streets of St Peter Port will not be closed for the day.

The event marks the start of road safety week to promote better driving.

Road Safety Week will be the biggest initiative a Guernsey road safety group has undertaken so far.

The week will display a crashed car outside the town church, to illustrate the message "speed kills".
