A Channel Island company has been awarded a lucrative contract to supply Guernsey's schools with state of the art computer systems.
The States gave its support to the Education Council's proposals for funding to update equipment, upgrade capacity and provide additional technical support for schools at its last full meeting.
Over the next five years an average of £3.5m a year will be invested in maintaining and building on the successes already achieved during the first four years of the ICT strategy.
Itex has been awarded the contract to supply the services and the Education Council will be working closely with Cable and Wireless to upgrade links and ensure the reliability of the network.
The Education Council's Special Projects Manager, Rob Couch, said he was pleased local companies will be supporting the next stage of developing the island's schools.
