Family escape injury in attack
Sinn Fein councillor Briege Meehan condemned the attack
Sinn Fein has condemned a petrol bomb attack on a family in Newtownabbey.

A couple and their two children, a two-week-old baby and a four-year-old girl, escaped injury in the attack.

Five devices were thrown at two houses on the Mill Road, Newtownabbey just before 2330 BST on Saturday.

The Catholic family say they believe the attack was sectarian.

Police said the attack damaged several windows to both properties.

Fragments of the device were found nearby, and a number of items were taken away for examination.

Sinn Fein councillor Briege Meehan described those behind the attack as "mindless cowards".

"It is part of an ongoing reign of terror against the Catholic and nationalist community in Newtownabbey," she said.

"What I would like is for the councillors of Newtownabbey Borough Council to come out and condemn this outright."

Detectives say they have not yet established a motive for the attack and have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
