Burglaries rise as weather hots up
Police in Stoke-on-Trent say the number of burglaries in the city has doubled as people leave windows and doors open in the hot weather.

There were 11 burglaries on Monday alone.

The police said that a number of the offences took place during the day while the victims were in their gardens.

In other cases, householders were burgled after downstairs windows were left open at night.

Among the 11 burglaries on Monday, a computer was taken from a house in Tunstall, a video recorder was stolen from a home in Blurton and several people had handbags, credit cards and car keys taken.

The police said there is usually an average of about five burglaries across the city each day.
