Eminem is attempting to get a $1m lawsuit filed against him by a former classmate thrown out of court.

The rapper is asking a judge to dismiss the claim by DeAngelo Bailey that his reputation was damaged in one of Eminem's songs, reports the Detroit News.

Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, is due to appear before Macomb County Circuit Court on 18 August to seek a dismissal of the case, the paper says.

Mr Bailey is suing over the track Brain Damage, which named him as a school bully.

He alleges that the song ruined his reputation and stalled his own attempts to start a career in music.

Eminem's lawyer Peter Peacock has filed a dismissal motion, citing Mr Bailey as trying to cash in on his client's fame.

Eminem also stands by his claim that he was beaten up by Mr Bailey during their time at Dort Elementary School in Roseville, Michigan.

Eminem's mother Debbie Mathers sued the school in 1982, claiming the beatings had caused her son headaches and led to a tendency towards anti-social behaviour, but the suit was dismissed.
