Calls to halt police station
Leicester Civic Society has called for planning permission to be withdrawn for a police station on a park.

The group says those on the city council who objected to the plans while in opposition should now safeguard the park while in power.

The plan is to build a police station on Spinney Hill Park, to replace the 19th century Asfordby Road station.

This is said to be outdated for modern policing, as well as to deter crimes on the park itself.

Permission plea

But many have questioned the development, including members of the Conservative and Liberal Democrats who are now in power on the city council, on the grounds of the loss of park space.

The plans were approved by the previous administration.

But the civic society says the sale of land must be advertised before it can go ahead and the sale is not automatic with planning permission.

It is calling upon the new administration to withdraw permission as soon as possible.

The city council says it is looking into the plans.
