Three men from Ayrshire have appeared in court on terrorism charges.

James McKenzie, Neil Findlay and Eric Hamilton were charged with breaching section 57 (1) of the Terrorism Act 2000.

The men are accused of possessing pyrotechnics, firearms equipment and documentation in circumstances giving rise to reasonable suspicion that this was for a purpose connected with the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism.

Mr Hamilton, 18, of Lothian Road, Stewarton, is also charged with being concerned in the supply of cannabis resin.

He appeared in private at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court with Mr McKenzie, 35, of Cramond Way, Irvine, and Neil Findlay, 32, of Duke Terrace, Ayr.

None of the men made any plea or declaration during a brief hearing before Sheriff Thomas Croan.

All three were remanded in custody pending further investigations.
