Woman in court over baby death

A 22-year-old woman has appeared in court accused of child neglect and concealing a birth after the discovery of a baby's body in a garden shed.

Michelle Rose South, 22, was charged following the find at an address in Prince Charles Road, Broadstairs, Kent, on Thursday last week.

Ms South, from Broadstairs, appeared before magistrates in Margate on Monday.

She was granted conditional bail and ordered to return to the same court on 1 September.

A 34-year-old man arrested with Ms South on Friday was released without charge.

A post-mortem examination carried out on the baby proved inconclusive, a Kent Police spokeswoman said.
