Drug suspect found in South Africa
Johannesburg
Mr Chenia was arrested in Johannesburg
A Leicester man has been arrested in South Africa on suspicion of distributing drugs - more than five years after he disappeared during a National Crime Squad operation.

Mohammed Chenia, 42, was wanted in connection with an inquiry into the distribution of class A and B drugs but vanished during the execution of a search warrant at a golf course in Leicester.

He was also on bail for alleged fraud offences at the time of his disappearance.

He was arrested in Johannesburg by South African police last week, an NCS spokesman said.

Mr Chenia, who disappeared from Kingstand Golf Course in February 1998, was arrested in a joint operation involving the NCS and the South African Police service extradition unit.

He appeared at Booysens Magistrates Court in Johannesburg on Monday for an extradition hearing to the UK and was remanded in custody until 27 August.
