Politicians seek stone mystery solution
The origins of a granite stone in Guernsey are being investigated by island politicians.

The Public Thoroughfares Committee wants to hear from anyone who knows more about the stone in Bouillon Road in St Andrews.

The committee believes it may be to mark the centre of the island before the Braye du Vale was reclaimed.

It is thought it is the work of the Royal Engineers stationed at Fort George, but despite considerable research, the background remains a mystery.

Fascinating item

Committee vice-president Bill Robilliard said it was a fascinating part of the island's heritage.

He said the committee wanted to draw attention to the stone, if it was as important as they believed.

"We would like to get some traditional story of its origin.

"We would like to put up a plaque nearby so tourists and tour guides can draw attention to it and add to the mystique of Guernsey."

Anyone who can help should contact Charles Frossard House on 01481-717000.
