Company angry at waste bid rejection
Rubbish dump
Martin Engineering Systems' tendering bid was rejected
A company shortlisted to build Guernsey's waste-to-energy plant has called the tendering process into question.

Martin Engineering Systems (MES) claims the States is being misled about why its offer for the multi-million pound project was rejected.

MES says its tender offer would have saved the States £75m over the next 25 years, if they had accepted it rather than the favoured bid.

The company says it was never told of any reason why the offer was not accepted, even after a written request to the Board of Administration.

The billet says the MES project was rejected because it is not a turnkey operation, meaning there are not enough safeguards in place if anything goes wrong.

But the company claims that is not true and the Board's preferred option is too big and too expensive for the island's needs.
